A brief change in the weather brings a welcome cool-down for Austria.
The heat is coming to an abrupt end in many places this week. We are expecting warm and humid to hot temperatures as early as today (Thursday), but thunderstorms are possible across the country. The probability of thunderstorms is particularly high in the west and south.
From Friday, maximum temperatures will drop to a pleasant 23 to 28 degrees for a few days. This is a refreshing change after the hot July in the east and south of Austria, with many tropical nights. In the coming days, we will experience more showers and thunderstorms, accompanied by a strong westerly wind in the north of the country. However, the weather will calm down again at the weekend and sunny spells will predominate.
New heatwave is in the east
At the beginning of next week, the influence of high pressure and sunshine will intensify, causing temperatures to rise again. While it will only be hot for a short time in the west, several consecutive hot days can be expected in the east. As the week progresses, the risk of thunderstorms will increase slightly as a westerly wind zone approaches.
Outlook for mid-August
Towards the middle of August, there is a good chance of typical Central European summer weather: moderate temperatures, plenty of sunshine and occasional rain. As has often been the case this summer, it will tend to stay warmer in the east than in the west.
